Drop In

To Commemorate the name change I have done a surfing piece. Expect more!

An Australian surfing icon, or perhaps would be icon. BB was just 22 when he was killed in a bar fight at the Taren Point Hotel in Sydney's southern suburbs. It was August 1967.

Three years previously at just 18, which was very young for a pro surfer in those days, he won the 1964 NSW State Championships beating Midget Farrelly. A few weeks later he wasn't as lucky in the Inaugural World Championships held at Sydney's Manly beach. Midget won. BB placed 6th. He was the youngest contestant.

This image shows his graceful and very fluid yet aggressive style. Nat Young wrote that it "played a significant part in the inside-the-curl which was to take Australia to the front in world surfing."

Bobby Brown was in a word, a Genius!
