Bali Search Engine
This one has been an idea of mine for a while. I saw a T'shirt in Australia with a Holden (GM) car and boards on the roof. The caption read Original Search Engine. I liked it. It was made more relevant by the fact that my son, and on occasions myself, would look at our local break in Maroubra Sydney online. Saving ourselves a 200 m walk to the beach!!!
But the Holden wasn't relevant for here in Bali. When surfers first came to Bali in the 70's and I suppose more so in the early 80's it was the motorbike that really opened up the island to exploration. Today we still rely on a bike with a board rack to see what is happening at the beach as surf cams are almost non-existent here. We do have the aid of online surf forecasting sites to take some of the guess work out of it. Although they are not known for their accuracy.
So a photo of Monty on his Honda CB100 taken on my iPhone became the basis of this composition.
The pattern in the background was some lockers at a hotel over in Sanur, I loved the stencil work on the timber faces and I couldn't finish it without me doing a nice big laid out bottom turn.
Here's to finding that solitary break out there.
