It's name, Kedungal. Pantai means Beach in Indonesian. This was a photo I captured on my iPhone of the wall at the back of the first Warung, or restaurant.

It is a magical place and Phil, his Balinese son Dede, Maxi my son and I spent an enchanted afternoon there one day just eating in the warung & surfing the afternoon away without a care in the world.

It was a small image and I spent a lot of time making it really big as well as wide. I want to print this on some timber. Perhaps old joglo planks joined together. It will be about 1200 wide when done.

I added some retro surfing images lifted from a 70's Surfer Magazine to fill out the image and bring the whole cruisey surf session we enjoyed to fruition.

Great place, so near yet tucked away. Must go again soon.

<img src="http://c0573862.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/1/0/13999/583800/Balanceofpower.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="329" align="left" /> So after some time I have gotten another image out. Been busy printing a whole lot of the other designs and I plan to get them into a shop here in Bali. See if what I do has any credibility or acceptability out there in the market.

I was going through a whole lot of old Bali images and the two "Kings" seemed to jump out. They were seperate images but seemed to be a part of a set. I wanted to temper their defiance and I came across this surly looking young maiden balancing deftly a basket of bananas on her head. I thought this an apt metaphor for the precarious nature of ruling. A balancing act.

This is a design I have worked up specifically to print onto a sarong. I have actually mocked up the sarong in the back ground to give me a better understanding of the finished product. Been looking at different materials to print on after seeing a good friend do some cool stuff on metal plate. Lets see how this all works out...

<img src="http://c0573862.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/1/0/13999/505272/KomangAjus.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="502" align="left" /> Another Balinese wedding this time Komang and Ajus. Long drive up the other end of the island with Andrew in his convertible VW Safari. Lovely day for it, hot but I stupidly forgot some sunscreen, oops! I would suffer later for that mistake.

We set off late, there was a flat type, an accelerator that stuck, had to ask for directions, get something to drink, did I tell you it was hot? and after about 3 hours we arrived. The place was deserted, it was mid afternoon and while Balinese weddings typically go all day, they are a constant stream of different people coming and going. Actually we were very lucky to have the couple and their family to ourselves. It was nice, it was easy. We could have been the only Bule's (Foreigners) in a group of 200. Spot the white boys.

We ate, chatted and after a couple of hours it was time to go home. Off we set. This time the car was fantastic however we encountered traffic and it took about two and a half hours to get home. I was shattered. So add it all together 6 hours driving for 2 hours of wedding. Not nearly enough.

The couple were beautiful though. All the best you two and a half...

This is a montage of some images I took while driving up and at the wedding. The palms shot through the open roof of the car, the couple repeated over about 10 layers and lastly a rusted piece of metal added in the back for texture. We had asked them to move so we could take photos with the forest as a backdrop. Komang is looking off towards Andrew and Ajus is looking down to make sure of his footing. The image shows how comfortable they are with each other already.

Tonight I was looking through some of them and I pieced them together to make this.

A discarded thong on a street, broken, it's life all but over, the seeds that promise new life. A Cambodian dancer of old from the poster that hung in my room, a painted surface and although not my photo the light overlay of a police shooting target.

I acknowledge the atrocities that happened in this country but I celebrate the hope that the country has. It is a wonderful place, humbling, scary in some respects but truly beautiful.

Mixed with an old shot of Kuta, some light coming through a set of windows and textures galore. I am really enjoying working with these images. Again the expression on the subjects faces are what captivated me. One looks almost bored, definitely distracted and the other, he's looking straight out at us. What exactly is on his mind, well you decide.

Hope you enjoy.

The whole Balinese wedding process takes a lot of time and there was a lot of wandering about. Out back, near the Bale I captured the new wifes nephew with his fighting cock. Boys are bred to breed cocks. I am not big on the whole fighting thing but that is a cultural element of life that rubs up against my upbringing. The boy was very cute, and protective, though.

Angkor Wat. Hard to pick it from this collage of photos but it is. We held an event at the back of Angkor Wat, the east side. A gala dinner for 400. As part of the set up we had hundreds of lights pointed at it. The corridor photo is actually untouched, the blues oranges and yellows are as they appear in my photo.

Not many people get into Angkor Wat at night. Fewer still have an eighty thousand dollar lighting rig. I took advantage of it. I will do more using these as backing images. They really are great.

The Apsara, Angel's, for want of a description, are a photo I took of the "Churning of the Sea of Mlk" Bass relief. The most famous of the Angkor reliefs and currently being restored.

The Shadow puppeteers are another photo I took at the west gate where we had cocktails for our guests. The screens raised to allow them to walk along a path of ice sculptures before seating themselves in front of the lit Angkor Wat. The entire night was amazing.

It's been a long time between posts, sorry about that. In a word, Work.

It's all good though as that terrible preoccupation means that I have also been traveling.

Hows this for an itinerary. First to Hong Kong, then twice to Cambodia, yep you heard it right, twice and lastly to Perth, West Australia. My mum turned 90. So it was a big meeting of the clan. Wonderful to hang with the whole family.

So lets start at the beginning. Hong Kong. Gateway to China. What a fab place. Amazing food, street scenes that look like they fell out of Blade Runner and The Hong Kong Sevens. Got some great photos, mostly for work at the Sevens and therefore not really usable here but this one was. The clustered buildings sprouting up. They are amazingly thin compared to their height. This is as seen from an apartment window amongst the thick of it.

Will get more stuff out in the next days...

Thought it about time that I had a BBQ and invited a few crew over. Maybe a movie night. Get the projector out and show Crystal Voyager which I have there but hadn't had time to watch.

Talking out in the water with the guys between sets the other day I had the idea to call it Meat and 3 veg. Maybe get a little graphic rich email out there. No need for print. But I would need a graphic.

The name comes from a label attached to the cooking of our mothers and their mothers before them. Meals lifted straight from the Margret Fulton's Cook Book. Potatoes in one form or another, perhaps carrots, brocholi or brussel sprounts and then a boiled bean or pea that had been in the pot so long that they become see through, the goodness tossed down the drain with the water they were boiled in, sacrilege! Oops, sorry mum!

So I got to playing with some of the Display fonts I have in a folder and coupled with a 60's family in front of the Telly I came up with this.

Now just have to figure out the format for the day...
